Michigan's Top 3 18U AAA Programs, Ranked
Michigan is one of the deepest 18U AAA markets in the country — metro Detroit alone has been producing Division I and NHL talent for decades. Narrowing the whole state down to three programs means there will be genuinely good teams left out of this list. However, if you're a family deciding where a player spends a development year, "good" isn't the question. Here are the top three programs that have been the most consistent and stand out above the rest.
#3 — Michigan Hockey Advancement (Red)
THR Grade: A-
MHA Red, run under the Total Package Hockey umbrella, takes the third spot on the strength of a consistent win record over the past five seasons and a steadily building alumni base.
It's also the one asterisk in this group. MHA's teams run a split-season model built around the Michigan high school calendar — they compete against Tier 1 AAA programs at heavily scouted fall showcases rather than grinding a full-season T1EHL schedule. That's a legitimate development and exposure path for high school players, but it's a different animal than the two programs ahead of it.
#2 — Little Caesars
THR Grade: A-
No surprise here. Little Caesars is one of the founding pillars of elite Detroit youth hockey — part of the same generation of programs, alongside Compuware and Honeybaked, that has been feeding Division I and pro rosters for decades. The 18U group brings a strong, consistent win rate over the last five seasons, a deep alumni base, and a steady pipeline of D1 commits.
This is blue-blood Michigan hockey. The name carries weight at every showcase in the country, and the results back it up.
"I had a great experience with the Little Caesars program and their coaching staff. Their expertise, knowledge, and connections have allowed me to move forward as a player and achieve my hockey goals. They allow freedom of skill and development to be at the forefront of hockey player's identity. Any youth hockey player should be grateful for any opportunity to play for the program and see their skill development improve."

#1 — Victory Honda
THR Grade: A-
In our eyes, Victory Honda is the top 18U program in the state right now. Based in Plymouth and competing in the T1EHL, VH pairs a consistent win rate over the past five seasons with one of the most impressive alumni bases in the region.
The NHL résumé does the talking: Alex DeBrincat, two-time Stanley Cup champion Ian Cole, Mat Roy, Nick Blankenburg, and Jaxson Stauber all came up through Victory Honda. When you grade on advancement — and that's THR's heaviest-weighted category — that kind of track record is the hardest thing in the sport to fake.
The bottom line
Three programs, three different cases for your kid. MHA Red is the high-school-aligned exposure route. Little Caesars is the institutional blue blood. Victory Honda is the advancement machine. The full category-by-category grades are available to see on each of their team pages on THR!
